Introduction:
Do you have anxiety? Does the struggle hinder your life? Imagine being a dog and not being able to vocalize your issue...but rather have to communicate through actions. Actions such as being destructive, losing the desire to listen, or running off. All of these are possible and so much more! But, why do we as owners do nothing to help our dogs cope with this issue? I think besides being educated in the subject, a major issue we come across is FRUSTRATION!
With that said, here are reasons why you should set your dog up for success today! 🦾
Many of the clients I have helped with separation anxiety have more than enough frustration to make the entire situation WORSE! As a trainer, I always want my puppy parents to be cool, calm, and collected. If the dog is not feeding off of your negative energy, it can make the issue much easier to deal with. Side note: dogs just want attention, whether it is good or bad...so don't set them up to fail with a negative vibe. Be a positive Patty and not a negative Nancy!
One of the first things I like to recommend is getting on an exercise routine/schedule. Many dogs respond well to having a strict regiment and knowing they will get worked. However, if this does not right the ship the next course for action would be to make quick trips (5-10 minutes) away from the house and come back to praise the dog for doing well. After a few days if the dog is doing well then increase the amount of time your are gone. Last but not the last trick, kennel training is a very effective tool for teaching and to have a "safe place" for your dog.
Another trick to try would be some CBD treats, oil, etc...as a disclaimer this does not work for every dog. However, just as with anything else in life, this maybe a great thing which works miracles or it just may be the worst thing every...either way you don't really know what works until you try.
Before signing off of this post, I would like to thank everyone for their time reading my posts! Without your support this would not be a reality for me! So, until paper & pen meet again or in this case fingers & the keyboard...I will catch you all next time!
