Introduction:
Do you suffer from "my dog eats and/or destroys everything" syndrome...well, this post is for you! So, let's begin with what I have found over the years and with what I am experiencing as a trainer in the civilian world!
With that said, here are 4 reasons why you should start giving your dog a job today! 🏃♂️
First and foremost is the lack of regular exercise. Dogs require daily (sometimes multiple) sessions of exercise. Dogs are born to work for something and giving them the right amount of exercise can help curb the destructive behavior. Do yourself & your dog a favor and get on an exercise schedule.
Second would be the lack of proper socialization. Dogs are pack animals and require the opportunity to have some pack play with other dogs. Just as with people, dogs have a high need to be social butterflies; without a social life dogs can become fearful, aggressive, destructive, etc. Socialization for dogs is great for mental health and life in general, so don't allow your dog to be an introvert and give them some good ol' group therapy.
Third, this is tough one but dogs need structure and accountability. Dogs depend on us to supply the structure of life they will live and hold them accountable for both good & bad behaviors. To put it another way, your dog is a toddler and without structure & accountability they will go CRAZY!
To wrap it up, we as owners need to understand how to implement the structure needed in the dogs life. Whether it is feeding, exercise, obedience, and many other things, we have to provide the dog(s) with the right stimulus and the right amount of time of the stimulus. As always feel free to reach out if you have questions, comments, or concerns!
